GOFA grew from a committee initially formed by members of Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance in 1992, to provide a sleepover for the homeless.

The name GOFA was adopted as it evolved into a furniture reuse project. The numbers of people both requesting and donating furniture increased as various agencies referred their clients to the project.

GOFA, with help from Cornwall Waste Action, successfully secured funding from the Co-op and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund to:

• purchase a new vehicle


• develop the furniture store


• and employ a supervisor for the Project.

New volunteers have joined to help with fundraising and book-keeping.

Penwith District Council have kindly let GOFA use a building in Penzance for an office and store.

It is hoped that with all this new energy, and money, GOFA will be able to

• increase its activities and provide an even better service


• make more furniture available


• save more valuable resources from ending up in landfill sites.


• increase awareness of the importance of reuse.
