The Furniture Reuse Network (FRN) and Dixons Stores Group (DSGi) have joined forces to ensure that appliances suitable for re-use are set aside for refurbishment.
Each of the 14 regional distribution centres for DSGi’s nationwide “takeback-on-delivery” service has now partnered with an approved re-use centre (ARC) run by an FRN member. Each ARC is now taking in between 70 and 200 items per week. Craig Anderson of FRN Enterprises Ltd said “We see this as a strong endorsement of our members’ services by both DSGi and DHL; since July we have worked together to design and implement a mutually agreeable re-use service that involves the commitment and action of all parties.”
Equipment refurbished by its members is supplied to people who cannot afford to purchase new items – as a result, FRN affirm such activities do not threaten sales of new goods for companies like DSGi. Paul Smith, Chief Executive of the FRN says, “This is the first of a large number of deals on both electrical and furniture items that FRN will be announcing over the coming year. We are already in talks with a major furniture retailer and a bed manufacturer. 2008 is going to be very exciting for reuse!”
